Johannes Richter, BSc
Biography
My academic career began with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering in Stuttgart. However, my interest in social issues in the context of climate change then led me to a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, where I discovered my fascination for urban spaces. I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Spatial Research and Spatial Planning at the University of Vienna. I am particularly interested in sustainable transformations in urban mobility systems and socio-economic structural change, especially in connection with a critical examination of gentrification processes. Cities pose such complex questions that an interdisciplinary or even transdisciplinary approach is essential.
This also applies to the research project “Zoonosis Emergence – across Degraded and Restored Forest Ecosystems” (ZOE for short), in which I am involved as a student project assistant in the Urban Studies working group. The focus is on international case studies in Slovenia, Slovakia, Costa Rica and Guatemala, which allows me to look beyond the Central European region and gain valuable new insights.
