What’s it all about?

For the second time, the course „Urban Research to Practice: Science4Policy Hackathon“ will bring together up to 50 Master students from the University of Vienna to analyse local sustainability challenges and develop recommendations for actions together with experts and decision-makers from the City of Vienna.

  • Kick-off: Tue, 06.10.2026, 13:15-16:30 at UZA II
  • Course sessions: 13.10., 20.10., 27.10., 3.11., 10.11., 17.11., 24.11., 1.12., 8.12.; 13:15 – 16:30 at UZA II
  • Hackathon: 12.1-13.1 at DOCK4Change
  • Final Pitch: 19.1, 13:15-16:30 at Aula am Campus

Who supports the teams?

  • Prof. Kerstin Krellenberg and Dr. Julia Wesely from the Urban Sustainability Living Lab will lead this course together with tutor Leonard Derle
  • Senior experts from the City of Vienna (including MA19 Architecture and Urban Design, MA22 Environmental Protection, MA49 Forestry and Agriculture) will give input presentations on the sustainability challenges and provide feedback
  • Senior Policy Expert Lene Topp will lead the Hackathon and contribute her expertise on science-for-policy processes
  • The Univie:Innovation Team supports the organisation of the entire course and especially the final Hackathon
