Wies de Wit, BA MSc

Biography

Wies de Wit joined the group as a prae-doc in September 2023. She works on the role, meaning, and potential of urban and peri-urban agriculture. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies from Leiden University, where she developed an interest in questions regarding the legacies of post-Soviet housing and urban planning, as well as the cultural entanglements among post-Soviet countries and cultures. She continued her education with a master’s degree in Human Geography at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), specializing in urban geography. She completed her MSc thesis with a study on “everyday food security,” combining feminist geopolitics and food geographies in a study of the Russian YouTube kitchen. Subsequently, she worked as a junior lecturer at UvA in the department of Geography, Urban Planning and International Development Studies.
